The Institute for East China Sea Research is working towards ensuring the availability of sustainable food resources in the 21st century by working with national and international research institutions to conduct basic and applied research addressing the safe and productive use of marine biological resources, as well as environmental protection and restoration. This philosophy is based upon the fundamental philosophy of Nagasaki University, which is to integrate our distinguished areas of tropical and infectious diseases, radiology, and marine environmental biological resources and other fields such as food resources and environment to become an internationally renowned education and research center, to further advance, individualize, and internationalize education and research, as well as to create influential research results and produce world-class scientists, to foster sufficient, extensive ability at the bachelors degree level through the coordinated arrangement of both professional and liberal arts education as well as to strengthen the organizational development of the graduate schools education curriculum, leading to a never-ending line of Nagasaki-University-brand professionals, to contribute to a more active, sophisticated, and internationalized education of the local community, its medical care, governmental administration, industry, and economy by giving back to society prominent educational and research achievements which can serve as the driving force of decentralization, to promote collaborative research at our overseas research hubs in Asia and Africa as well as improve the development courses for professionals who wish to dedicate themselves to work in international contribution and cooperation for the sustainable development of developing countries, to nurture students dreams and their human potential, maximizing their abilities as well as the environment in order to help young scientists become independent and to create a university campus where young people full of determination and spirit are gathered, and to directly link reviews and evaluation results to the improvement of education, while reforming the university management system organizationally and continuously, thereby enhancing the management framework of university cooperation.
