History

The Institute for East China Sea Research was founded in April 2005 after the reorganization of the Marine Resource Education and Research Center of the Faculty of Fisheries. The Institute is home to 5 full-time academic staff, as well as 4th year undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdoctoral scientists. Together, the Institute is studying the biology, ecosystems, and environment of the nearby waters such as the East China Sea, the Ariake Sea, and Omura Bay.

We are located in a special International Fisheries Zone, where the Seikai National Fisheries Agency and the Nagasaki Prefectural Fisheries Institute of Fishery are located. These three institutions cooperatively provide outreach services as well as conduct collaborative research.
